Ok, I am feelin' a bit like a failure...My three year-old is not yet potty trained...Yes...You read that right..He is not. Has no desire to be. Unless we are at Wal-Mart. (The crazy kid LOVES using the restrooms at Wal-Mart.)
I just don't get it. We have tried everything from bribery to beatings. (Settle down, don't call CPS on me yet...I am just kidding about the beatings!) We have done rewards, praise, ignoring it and letting him "be ready". Gummy bears. Stickers. We let him run naked. (This ended in frustration for both of us, as I spent my day cleaning up pee spots.) We have tried it ALL! But here I am, diapering my 3 year-old.
Frustrated. So, if any of my ***MILLIONS*** of readers have any BRILLIANT ideas, please feel free to comment!
I am almost to the point of sitting in the Wal-Mart bathroom for a couple of days...I wonder if they would let me set up a tent???? HMMM......
You will not like my answer, I'm afraid. But here goes anyway. I think he must not be ready. When they are it just isn't a big deal. Even a month could make a big difference. He just turned three and boys aren't usually ready by then. Relax and let him be a baby a little bit longer. When Aidan was running around naked we lived in the country and he was outside most of the time. I didn't have to clean up floors with him. Addison was like training a puppy - but way worse. I had wanted her trained before Brooklyn came but that was a mistake. When we tried again about 5 months later it was completely different.
ReplyDeleteOh yuck... I HATE potty training! :) What's worse is feeling like everyone is judging you because your kid isn't yet. :) No worries, I've heard that boys are hardest, and because my mom had such a hard time with one brother, she waited until the littlest brother was 3 before she even attempted. I wouldn't sweat it. One thing though, my cousin has a son who was super hard and over 3 and her pediatrician suggested a dvd called 'Potty Power' and it worked wonders for him. I borrowed it for Bailey and she loved it (BTW it is SUPER cheesy) but it wasn't a miracle worker for her. I've watched it several times and it makes the kids feel like they are grown up and a big kid... so if that seems up his alley then it might be worth a try. Good luck... hang in there! You've been successful at potty training once before! :)
ReplyDeleteAudra, that is what we have done..Still, though, it **feels** like a huge failure! Oh well. Like Cierra said, "It's a good thing he isn't going to kindergarten!"
